Sculptor and painter born in Guatemala, she received the honorary citizenship of Mornico Losana, Pavia, Italy.
From an early age, Elsie Wunderlich demonstrated a strong vocation for art. She began studying drawing and painting at the age of 16.
She studied Architecture and Art History at Universidad Francisco Marroquín and the National School of Fine Arts of Guatemala, and continued her artistic training with masters in Guatemala, Italy, Spain, and France. Her work has developed a highly personal visual language in painting and sculpture, deeply inspired by nature and the integration of humanity within it. She has held 38 solo exhibitions and participated in over 100 group exhibitions in galleries, museums, biennials, art fairs, and universities across Guatemala, the United States, Mexico, Puerto Rico, the Dominican Republic, France, Italy, and the Netherlands. She served as coordinator and curator for the Venice Biennale exchanges between Guatemala and Italy in 2015, 2017, 2018, 2019, and 2026. Her work is part of private and institutional collections internationally. Awards include: Venice Biennale recognition (2015), Europe Pavilion (2019), honorary citizenship of Mornico Losana (2012), Artist of the Year Medal by the Alexander von Humboldt Institute (2009), among others. Wunderlich also took part to a special project: designing labels for Piccinini Italian wines.
