Born in Guatemala in 1978, Jorge Chavarría is an artist and photographer. His work explores themes such as gender, culture, identity, nature, and social phenomena. His practice lies at the intersection of documentary photography, design, and contemporary art. He studied Systems Engineering at the Universidad de San Carlos de Guatemala and is a self-taught photographer specializing in analog darkroom processes. His work has been exhibited in major galleries and museums in Guatemala, as well as in galleries and festivals in countries including Japan, France, El Salvador, the United States, Puerto Rico, England, and Spain. In recent years, his artistic production has focused on the use of nineteenth-century photographic processes, including wet plate collodion, silver gelatin printing, albumen printing, cyanotype, carbon printing, kallitype, photogravure, salt printing, and daguerreotype.
